Whether or not you plan to stay at the lovely historic Riverview Hotel, you should absolutely stop in for a meal at its attached restaurant, Captain Seagle’s Seafood Restaurant and Saloon, the oldest continually operating restaurant and bar in St. Marys. It was purchased by three sisters in 1911, then family owned and operated until the current owners bought and renovated it in 2019.
The restaurant has multiple areas to eat and dine in, each with its own vibe: you can grab a bite and a martini in the sophisticated speakeasy, sit down for a family-style dinner in the dining room, have a blast singing karaoke in the saloon Wednesday and Friday nights, or listen to some live music on the outdoor patio. Of course, in any of these areas, you can enjoy delicious Georgia seafood from right off the boat, right down the road. Whether pan-seared or fried, their shrimp is totally mouthwatering.
Although it’s no longer family-run, the Seagle’s crew works hard to make sure that its family vibe and rich history is still reflected in the atmosphere. “Being a part of a historic property means we have that legacy to look up to,” says general manager of food and beverage Jessica Scantlebury. “We try our best to make it our own, of course, but also keep up with, you know, the great history of Seagle’s alike.” Come drop by to get a taste of that great history right on the St. Mary’s coastline.
